Now What?

I just finished the FINAL draft of book #2 in my mystery series, leaving me to wonder, "Now what?"

Looking back in my journals (yeah, actual paper—remember that stuff?), I started work on this last novel about five years ago, after I returned from a trip to Montana. The Gold Country and ghost towns out there stirred my imagination, so I wrote a novel about them.

Then, once I started my PI/mystery series, about three years ago, I adapted the original Montana novel into a case for my detective.

The nature of novel-writing is that you spend a lot of time underwater, and when you finally come up for air, sometimes not only are the people who came to the beach with you gone, there are condos on the beach now and some of your companions have died or won the lottery.

You miss stuff—although not as much stuff as you'd think.

However, after five years with the same stories, and about three years with the same characters, I'm left to wonder...now what?

It's time to start listening for that small, still voice again.

Better yet, maybe my redheaded Muse will show up.
