The machine that Alice Denham is pictured with appears to be a mid-50's Royal HH. The <a href="http://munk.org/typecast/2011/05/29/further-observations-1952-remington-quiet-riter/" rel="nofollow">'52 Quiet-Riter</a> is one of my favorite typewriters to actually type on, as far as typing action and the unique sound it makes. Very nice find at a great price!

Ha! I can relate to your story quite well. I also bought my typewriter from a retired teacher who had kept it locked away in her closet for three decades. Mine Is a Royal Quiet Deluxe, also from 1952, and also in near mint condition. A little cleaning, some light oiling and a new ribbon and it works as good as new. I love these anecdotes! They show how the mechanical typewriter is making a huge comeback with the creative writing crowd. Don't ask me why, buy I never related well with the computer as a writing tool. The TW, on the other hand, makes my thoughts and creativity soar.

Well I just bought this typewriter at my local Salvation Army for a whopping 5 bucks! It's in its case and it works like a charm.

Would you know anything about the photographer of this wonderful picture? And is it really a 1952 Remington that Alice Denham wrote on?
